Our hospital has advanced equipment and technologies, including comprehensive in-house testing for accurate diagnosis, digital x-ray, surgical suites, dental suites, and a pharmacy. Dr. Erica Runkle
Medical Director
Dr. Erica Runkle earned her Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology and biology and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine, both from Colorado State University. She completed externships at Riverside Zoo in Nebraska and at the University of Florida Wildlife and Zoological Medicine Department. After graduating veterinary school in 1998, she moved to Georgia and worked in small animal hospitals, continuing to develop her special interest in exotic animal medicine. Outside of working as a veterinarian, Dr. Runkle enjoys hiking, gardening, remodeling her house, and traveling. She has two dogs (Tilly and Henry), three cats (Jack, Pandora and Oliver), and four birds.

Dr. Brooke Brummel
Veterinarian
Dr. Brooke Brummel is the newest associate veterinarian on the Coal Mine Animal Hospital team. She is a 2007 graduate of Colorado State University and a certified acupuncturist with interest in dentistry and feline medicine. As a dedicated member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and American Academy of Feline Practitioners (AAFP), Dr. Brummel is always seeking new ways to meet the needs of her patients. She makes her home with her husband Jeff, their daughter Katarina, and their pets Kira, a German Shepherd mix, and Bane and Stinkerbell, 2 cats. Her hobbies include hiking, biking, and playing softball and euchre.

Michelle Biles, CVT
Hospital Manager
Michelle was born and raised in Colorado. She graduated from Bel-Rea in 2008 with an associate degree in animal technology. Michelle is currently enrolled at MSU Denver, where she is working towards a BS in biology and a minor in business management. Her professional interests include surgery (soft tissue and orthopedic), parasitology, and emergency and critical care.
Michelle lives with her husband and daughter, and together they have a Red Heeler named Cricket and a cat named Snoops. In her spare time, she enjoys playing volleyball, reading, swimming, hiking, and spending time with her family.
