Dr. Erica Runkle
Dr. Erica Runkle earned her Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology and biology and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine, both from Colorado State University. She completed externships at Riverside Zoo in Nebraska and at the University of Florida Wildlife and Zoological Medicine Department. After graduating veterinary school in 1998, she moved to Georgia and worked in small animal hospitals, continuing to develop her special interest in exotic animal medicine. Outside of working as a veterinarian, Dr. Runkle enjoys hiking, gardening, remodeling her house, and traveling. She has two dogs (Tilly and Henry), three cats (Jack, Pandora and Oliver), and four birds.
Dr. Jill Levy
Dr. Jill Levy earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Kansas State University and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University in 1986. In the 27 years that Dr. Levy has been a veterinarian, she has practiced in Scottsdale, AZ and the Denver metro area. She has special interests in soft tissue surgery, advanced dental procedures, and feline medicine. When she is not at work, Dr. Levy enjoys spending her time cooking, reading, hiking, and playing with her dogs. She shares her life with her husband, Don, and their three “furry children”: Maddy (16-year-old DLH), Izzy (6-year-old Spaniel/Poodle/Maltese rescued over two years ago), and Wally (4-year-old Golden Retriever rescued last summer).
Dr. Brooke Brummel
Dr. Brooke Brummel is the newest associate veterinarian on the Coal Mine Animal Hospital team. She is a 2007 graduate of Colorado State University and a certified acupuncturist with interest in dentistry and feline medicine. As a dedicated member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and American Academy of Feline Practitioners (AAFP), Dr. Brummel is always seeking new ways to meet the needs of her patients. She makes her home with her husband Jeff, their daughter Katarina, and their pets Kira, a German Shepherd mix, and Bane and Stinkerbell, 2 cats. Her hobbies include hiking, biking, and playing softball and euchre.
Dr. Sarah Llewellyn
Dr. Llewellyn received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Texas A&M University in 2017 and her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Texas in 2013. She is also a Fear Free Certified Professional, helping pets to feel comfortable and stress-free in the clinic. Since childhood, Dr. Llewellyn has always loved her dogs and cats, and knew that she wanted to be in medicine. As a veterinarian, she loves connecting and building relationships with people through caring for their pets.
At home, Dr. Llewellyn has two pets: a yellow Lab named Ziggie, and a long-haired cat named Marlie. In her free time, she loves watching football, especially Texas football, skiing, hiking and playing lacrosse. One animal she absolutely loves (and never see quite enough of) is elephants!
Tawna received her business degree from Mesa State and has worked in the veterinary field for 24 years in various positions. She has always loved animals, and loves going to work each day and getting to help people and their animals! Tawna and her husband Daven are soon-to-be grandparents and share their home with 2 Golden Retrievers, Sunshine and Grace.
Outside of work, Tawna’s hobbies include spending time with family, doing yoga, horseback riding, walking, and breeding healthy, beautiful Golden Retrievers.
Michelle Biles, CVT
Michelle was born and raised in Colorado. She graduated from Bel-Rea in 2008 with an associate degree in animal technology. Michelle is currently enrolled at MSU Denver, where she is working towards a BS in biology and a minor in business management. Her professional interests include surgery (soft tissue and orthopedic), parasitology, and emergency and critical care.
Michelle lives with her husband and daughter, and together they have a Red Heeler named Cricket and a cat named Snoops. In her spare time, she enjoys playing volleyball, reading, swimming, hiking, and spending time with her family.
